Writing
for Multimedia
(see overview PowerPoint above)
Multimedia writing
is presented on a computer screen. Examine differences between traditional
print-based writing and multimedia writing. This entry-level course
is for anyone curious about the ever-growing “new
media” world for writers.
Even
if you don’t know MS PowerPoint,
html, web authoring software or how to turn on a computer, this exploratory
class is for you. Just bring a pencil! Multimedia writers craft “layered
content” (several levels accessible by hyperlinks or mouse clicks.)
Explore
layering, effective word choice, styling, tone, editing, and legal
issues. If you have ever thought about putting your words on your
own website, CD-Rom, or “blog,” find out what’s involved
and craft your own state-of-the art content.
Write Anything!
Writing
is no mystical gift. Using this eight step process, you can write
anything -- from your memoir to that attention grabbing cover letter.
Through this course, you practice every major form of
writing using an easy and effective process. Let your confidence
as a writer soar.
Write
to Sell!
You've
written a great book. But do you know how to write great press releases,
web content, and other materials to promote your book?
Tame
the Media!
Learn
effective ways from a veteran journalist to get free media coverage.
What works and what drives reporters and editors crazy? Find out
how to make friends in the media and get your book free (there's
that word again) publicity.
Get
money to publish.
You
don't have to drain your savings or hit up relatives to get your
book published. Look at alternative methods of getting money to publish.
Compare the advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing vs. publishing
through a traditional publishing house.

What do
I charge?
This is a general
estimate of the billing system.
Freelance or content
writing rate is based on publication's standard rates. I don't write
anything for free (other than what I provide for free on this site in
exchange for a link here.)
For classes or inservices,
I charge $30 per person for half-day sessions. Cost is $60 per person
for a full day session.
For individual consulting
assignments, my rate is $50 per hour, plus expenses. This includes helping
you completely plan content for a website, or evaluate your existing
content and its usability.
I charge $50 an hour
for editing and copyediting services. I work fast and I'm good.
To completely research,
write, design and build a 20 slide PowerPoint, I charge $500 - $1500.
Cost is lower if fact sheet is provided. (I can explain.)
To appear at a conference,
I request that travel and lodging be covered, and that I receive a negotiable
honorarium.
If I have to travel,
transportation costs and lodging must be covered. If we can work together
online, on the phone, and/or through email, there is no charge for expenses
except for long-distance calls.
