Cardiovascular Division

The Cardiovascular Division (Terumo Cardiovascular) manufactures and sells medical devices for cardiac and vascular surgery with an emphasis on cardiopulmonary bypass and intra-operative monitoring.

A variety of Terumo products are used in cardiovascular surgery settings globally:

• Artificial heart-lung machines, which work in place of the heart and lungs by circulating blood outside the body
• Hollow-fiber oxygenators, which perform blood oxygen exchange in place of the lungs
• Blood parameter monitoring systems, which provide continuous inline monitoring of key blood parameters during cardiovascular surgery
• Extracorporeal life support system, which aids heart and lung functions in emergency situations including heart attack
• Beating heart and surgical stabilization products, which are versatile, stable tools to assist surgeons during on-pump and off-pump procedures

Among these, Terumo introduced the world’s first hollow fiber oxygenator in 1982. Through the years, Terumo has continually improved this technology to increase oxygen exchange performance and further reduce patient burden.

Cardiopulmonary Bypass System

Terumo offers devices that circulate blood in place of the heart and lungs during cardiovascular surgery in which the heart is stopped (“on pump” surgery).

Extracorporeal Life Support System

This system performs the heart and lung functions for a patient with life-threatening respiratory or cardiac failure. This is done by inserting a catheter into a blood vessel of the thigh to bring blood outside the body, where it is cycled through a centrifugal pump and membrane oxygenator in a closed state.

Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Products

Beating Heart or Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery avoids placing patients on-pump, and surgery is performed while the heart continues to beat. After chest incision, a stabilization system steadies only the portion of heart where the surgeon is working. This type of surgery is designed to avoid complications with on-pump procedures and benefits certain patient populations.

Products for Regenerative Medicine

Đánh bạc trực tiếp baccaratIn 2015, Terumo’s HeartSheet autologous skeletal myoblast sheets became the world’s first cardiac regenerative therapy product to be approved for manufacture and sale. Individual skeletal myoblast sheets are made by taking skeletal myoblasts from the patient’s own thigh muscle, culturing them, and then forming them into sheets. These autologous skeletal myoblast sheets are transplanted directly onto the surface of the heart. They are seen as a promising therapy option for patients not likely to benefit from drug therapies or surgery.
